Black, white and sparkles

Happy Monday! Today's look is my inspiration for a valentines day outfit. It's sweet yet interesting enough to wear for a romantic night of dinner and dancing. This week, my outfits will provide a little V-day inspiration. I'll also be featuring some yummy treat to try, so stay tuned.

Polar Vortex

Here on the East Coast, it seems as though mother nature is really starting to get the hang of this winter thing. The other day we had a bit of a snow storm which made our three day weekend, into a five day weekend. I am not one to let a little snow hinder my style so I threw on my fabulous fur coat and took that storm head on. I do have to admit that my ankles almost felt frost bitten but I guess thats the price you have to pay for fashion.

Vintage Fur

We have certainly had some crazy weather this past week. One day was sunny and almost 70 degrees and the next day is snow and hailing. These pictures were clearly taken in the latter. I got this fabulous vintage fur coat last week when I visited Minnesota. I love the soft fur and the color is to die for. This won't be the last time you see me in this, I plan on wearing it straight through till spring.

I finally ironed out the details of my upcoming giveaway so stay tuned for that this Wednesday. For more great content check me out on instagram @according2trish

Sparkle

A couple of weeks ago I was so happy to attend the engagement party of one of my good college friends, Robeya and her fiancé Terrance. It was a great night filled with family, friends and love. Even though my college friends and I stay in touch quite often it was good to physically see everyone and catch up.

The event was a semi-formal event so I chose to wear this festive thrifted dress to celebrate the occasion. I know I've explained once or twice (or a million) times here on the blog how great thrifting can be but seriously you can really find great stuff at the thrift store, if your willing to look and maybe to an alteration or two. This sparkly dress would be perfect for a holiday party or New years eve and I'm sure the are 100's more like it in you local thrift/ consignment store.

Man up

I hope you all had a great thanksgiving. I'm currently in Minnesota visiting the future in-laws and having a great time. Besides it being like 0° F, Minnesota is actual pretty cool. Tax free shopping, the Mall of America, and some great places to eat have made this place quite comfortable for me.
Before I left Maryland, I was able to snap these picture and as composed as they look I must tell you that I was freezing!! Even though it's almost winter, I still think you can bare a bit of skin and still keep warm. The trick to rocking a crop top in the cold is by being mostly covered up otherwise.
Well, I'm on my way out the door so I will talk to you all super soon. To catch up with me and see some more great content, follow me on instagram @according2trish

The Cape

There is nothing like a cape to make a girl feel ultra fabulous and chic. This cape just makes me feel so bordeaux-esque.

Man repeller

Last week the Man repeller, aka Leandra Medine , came to DC to do a book signing for her new book, Man repeller: Seeking love, finding overalls . When I first heard about the event I knew I would be in attendance but I wasn't quite sure what  to wear. I thought my usually ultra feminine style, wouldn't be appropriate for a Man repeller party so I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried something new, Boyfriend Jeans. Yes, this is my first and only pair of boyfriend jeans and I am ashamed that I waited so long to try them. They are super duper comfy and I still feel pretty feminine in them. (Side note: I actually DIY them to make them distressed. I'm getting really DIY obsessed all of a sudden lol)
I paired the jeans with my go to fall booties, crop top, embellished blazer and clutch.
Funny story, at the book signing I met a girl would had a clutch almost identical to mine but hers was vintage from the 70s.   Crazy right?!
Anyway I hope you all have a fab friday and even fabber (yes, I made that word up) weekend!!

Mixed Monochrome

Happy Monday all!! I am in the process of moving but wanted to do a quick post of an outfit I wore last week. I know that there are thousands of ways to rock the black and white "Trend" but I love how it looks when different prints are paired. I am no stranger to the mixing my prints (see here, here and here) but there is just something so chic and clean when those prints are black and white. Expect to see this color combo on me a lot this fall.
Alright so I have so much unpacking to do so I am going to sign off now. Hope you all have a wonderful week and don't forget to check out my instagram @according2trish for even more great content.

Puerto Rico

I figure I'd take a break from my NYFW post to share with you some of my photos from Puerto Rico. As I told you I was in Puerto Rico for a short vacation and I wanted to do a "little" photo diary to show you all of the amazing things I was able to see and experience while I was there. With this chill in the air that we're having on the east coast, I am  certainly missing that Puerto Rican sunshine.
We stayed at the Embassy Suites and Casino, which was great. They have free breakfast in the morning and a free cocktail time between 5:30-7:30pm every evening. I would definitely recommend staying there.
Food selection was also good in Puerto Rico. When you're there you must try the Mofongo, which is a Puerto Rican dish made of plantains and which ever kind of meat (or veggies) you choose.

The beaches in Puerto Rico are beautiful (not as beautiful as Barbados lol). We had so much fun walking around the beaches and old San Juan. Old San Juan is full of such rich history and beautiful architecture, I felt like I was in a little city in the Middle of Spain. Another great thing to do while in old   San Juan, besides walking around and taking in the beautiful scenery, is visit the Bacardi brewery. It's such a good tour and it free. After the tour you get  two free samples of Bacardi cocktails. Such a great deal!
All in all I had a very good time and would definitely love to go again. If you have visited Puerto Rico and have any suggests  I missed or have any questions I can answer please leave a comments below. Also you can check out even more photos from my Puerto Rican trip on my instagram @according2trish and my facebook page

NYFW: Crop top and mixed prints

During NYFW, it's all about wardrobe changes. I wore this outfit on the second day of fashion week as well but later in the day. This was my dinner outfit. Speaking of dinner, meals during NYFW are usually few and far between and when you do get a chance to eat, you want it to be something really good. Unfortunately, our epicurean luck was bad and we didn't really have too many great meals.

As I type I am currently enjoying a much needed vacation in Puerto Rico. After such a stressful, yet amazing, time at New York Fashion Week you want to be able to relax and recharge yourself and this trip is my attempt at that. I can't wait to share some of the beautiful pictures that I'm taking here. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I would love to hear about your plans, so leave your comments below. You can also follow along with my adventures on instagram @according2trish.

Multicolored Dress

Thank God for the warm weather. I am certainly a summer baby (my birthday's coming up btw) and I am loving this warm weather. Light weight dresses like this will be my summer staple.
It's great when you find pieces on the off season, forget that you have them and when looking for something to wear, rediscover them in the back of your closet. This is exactly what happened with this dress. I bought is last fall at goodwill thinking it would be a great piece for the summer, then yesterday while digging through my closet I found it and was so proud of myself for that purchase. I love the bright colors and shapes on this dress. It reminds me of the seventies. I will forever think that the wrap dress is the ultimate feminine wear. It just hits a women's curves in all the right places.
Any way, I hope you all have a wonderful week. Thanks for stopping by.

Denim Top and Laser Cuts

Finally, finally, finally, the weather has broken and I can once again bare some skin. I am too excited for the summer. I have some cool trips planned not to mention, my birthday is coming up (yay!!). I hope you all are ready for all of the new happenings that are coming to the site this summer as well.

If I haven't mentioned it before, I LOVE THESE HEELS. First off, they're super cute and secondly they're surprisingly comfy. The last time I wore them was here, but this time I decide to let them be seen a bit more. I wore this outfit to the Capfabb's 2nd anniversary party which was a pretty cool event, where we got to watch the move "The Tents"and had a cute little cocktail party afterwards.

What do you all have planned for the upcoming long weekend? You can check out all my weekend happenings on instagram @according2trish

Vintage Peplum

Hey everyone. Hope you all had a wonderful mother's day weekend. Happy belated mother's day to  all of the mothers out there. I decided to take my awesome mom to brunch and we had such a great time. I will be posting a restaurant review for that so stay tuned.
So this is what I wore to brunch. This top is so vintage and so sexy and I love it! From the peplum to the low v neck, this top has all the elements to make any girl feel womanly. I paired it with a dark pair of jeans, some awesome cat eye shades and my fab new cut out sandals. All in all, this made for a very nice ensemble, if I say so myself. Have a wonderful week !!!

Something blue

I have had these blue trousers for almost a year now and have never worn them.  From the first moment I laid my eyes on them in the thrift store I new they had to be mine. They are a beautiful robin egg blue and feature a high waisted fit. My favorite thing about theses pants is that they fit me perfectly and weren't even tailored. The length (which is alway a problem for me) is perfect.  Here I paired the trouser with a thin cropped sweater but I'm actually trying to find a cute vintage bustier to pair it with. When I do, you all will be the first to see.

Twelve Sixteen

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I spent the weekend with the family because I wouldn't be able to do so for christmas because of my European trip. I also did some christmas shopping and went to my companies holiday party. This is what I wore for that occasion. It was a lunch so I didn't want to be too formal but it was still a holiday party so I wanted to be slightly fancy.

Red Sparkle

This past wednesday I had the pleasure of attending the Red Sparkle pop-up beauty lounge event. Red Sparkle is a organization that encourages entrepreneurship in creative careers (like fashion and beauty) amongst young women in the DC metropolitan area. They held this event to celebrate the diversity within the fashion and beauty communities and to raise proceeds towards their worthy cause. The event was held at the beautiful La Petite Marmoset's show room  (my second home in my head) and was filled with fabulous bloggers and beauty lovers. I had an amazing time and even won a pair of crux NYC earrings in a raffle. Here are just a few pictures I was able to take at the event.
My boo Yvonne of the Pink Doll House

Naja of From combat boots to Stilettos  and Nife of Skinny Hipster , our host for the evening.

Finally got to meet the fab Nife she's such a sweetheart.  My two favorite Haitian bloggers,  Shella of The everyday catwalk (to my left) and Jennifer of Comme Coco (to my far left).

Peacock

As the temperatures start to drop, I find my self gravitating more and more towards leather pieces. This leather skirt was another great thrift find. It's 100% leather and it is soft as butter.
If you're wandering what the name of this posts comes from, it was inspired by the gorgeous statement necklace. Please don't hate me for featuring this again and again. I just love it.
So is any body else as excited for the holidays as I am? I have been a big holiday fan since I can remember and it is something I just won't shake. If you all all are a lost for what to cook for this up coming thanksgiving, don't worry, I'll have 4 (yes 4 ) new recipes on the blog this week that should help you out. Any way, I think it's time for me to peel myself out of this bed and get ready for work, so I catch you on the flip side.

Black and White

Black and white is the classic combo, like peanut butter and jelly. Loving how the combo is played out in this outfit.  With the dropping temperatures, I find my self slowly pulling down more and more cold weather gear from my closet. These boots were the result of my most recent closet pull. There is nothing like a thigh high boot, they add a touch of sexy to any outfit. Expect to see these babies again.

3 for 1

First things first, I have to extended my thought and prayers out to the families that were effected by hurricane sandy. I, myself, live on the east coast but planned a vacation to California which so happen to fall the same weekend the hurricane hit so I was so fortunate and am very grateful.

Ok now to the fashion. I have been a bad blogger *slaps self on wrist*. I've haven't been particularly consistent with posts for a couple of weeks because life has been happening. Fortunately, I'm getting things in order so I'll be posting on a much more regular basis. I thought since I've been neglecting my responsibilities I would give you three different outfits in one post.

These first shots were taken about a month ago when the weather was a little warmer. I love this dress. The colors are so appropriate for fall and the silhouette is versatile. Between me and you, I've worn it many a few times and have styled it a few different ways.
